4 Simple Ways to Make Your Home Energy-Efficient

Simple ways to make your home energy-efficient

Are you constantly looking for ways to improve your home?
Why not try making it energy-efficient? It’s not that hard!

In today’s post, we have outlined four simple ways on how you can save energy and contribute to environmental sustainability. But before anything else, we’d like to share about the Mass Save Program for the benefit of those who are not familiar with it.

Mass Save Program

Did you know?

The State of Massachusetts has various energy efficiency programs where you can get rewarded for being eco-friendly, such as the Mass Save Program.

What is the Mass Save Program?

According to their website, “Mass Save® is a collaborative of Massachusetts’ electric and natural gas utilities and energy efficiency service providers including Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty, National Grid, and Unitil. We empower residents, businesses, and communities to make energy efficient upgrades by offering a wide range of services, rebates, incentives, trainings, and information.”

Here are some of the perks they offer:

  • $40 rebate when you purchase an Energy Star certified air conditioning unit;
  • $500 rebate when you replace a natural gas or propane tank with an induction stove;
  • Up to $16,000 back when you install a high-efficiency heat pump;
  • $30 rebate when you purchase an Energy Star certified dehumidifier.

Isn’t that great? The ones above are just some of the many incentives. To check your eligibility and for more information, visit their website at masssave.com.

Simple ways to make your home more energy efficient

Going back, there’s no denying that we can now feel the effects of climate change; be it through destructive storms, heat waves, or rising sea levels.

Carbon emissions are rising and temperatures all over the globe are rising with it as well. While there’s nothing we can do to stop this, we can help slow down the rate of global warming by conserving energy. Here’s how you can do it:

4 Ways to Make Your Home Energy-Efficient

1. Insulate Your Home

Insulation is one of the best ways to make your home energy-efficient. By insulating your house, you can keep it warm during winter and cool during the summer (making it a comfortable space all year round). That also means reduced energy costs for you, as you’re less likely to use heating and cooling as much as you would if your home isn’t insulated.

2. Install Solar Panels

If you want to take your energy efficiency game to the next level, you can install solar panels to power your home. These panels generate energy from the sun and convert it into electricity.

As you already know, this is a pricier alternative. Purchasing solar panels alone can cost you a lot of money. Not to mention that you still have to pay for technical expert fees, fitting, and installation. It is expensive and not for everyone, but it pays in the long run. It has a larger positive impact on the environment as well. But on top of that, you can get benefits from your state or local government for going solar.

3. Go for Energy Star Certified Home Appliances

When shopping for appliances, always look for the Energy Star certification. All you need to do is look for the light Blue logo. Then, you can check the rating. The more stars it has, the more efficient the appliance is! To those not familiar with it, a higher star rating means less energy use (and more savings on your part!). Not bad, right?

4. Turn Off Appliances when Not in Use

This simple action is something you shouldn’t overlook. Turning off appliances when not in use can reduce your annual bills and the risk of having electrical short circuits (which can lead to fires or damages).

When going out or going on vacation, don’t forget to turn the switches off and unplug appliances, especially when you plan to leave for a longer time.
